Selena Mackay, is an international designer who has an unerring eye for refined elegance. She guides and educates her clients to develop the vision that leads to their most elevated interior and exterior spaces. Through her extensive knowledge of materials, applications, and juxtaposition of finishes, she creates interiors that are sumptuous, alluring, and perfectly appointed. “The creation of an interior space”, she says, “is not only the objects that inhabit a room, but how their shapes talk to each other, how their color interacts, the smell, the sound, the touch, the feel, the deliciousness…”
Having grown up the daughter of a couturier, she was exposed to the most exquisite fabrics and craftsmanship at an early age. The love of creating, drawing and reinventing has always been her passion. She applies this customization to all her projects bringing an element of originality to each one she completes.
“My unique, God given gift, is to be able to see the vision, communicate it to my clients, and watch it unfold into a beautiful, balanced space. There are no two clients alike. Therefore, there are no two projects alike!”
Selena received her training in fashion design, winning awards for collections created during her practice as a Fashion designer. She created her interior design practice out of the curiosity to apply her knowledge to furniture and construction. Twenty years later, she has built an extensive practice consisting of interior design, furniture design and manufacturing, and construction specification.
The partnership in her latest venture, The WM is the result of her applied passion. The WM is Houston’s new luxury design destination. Through her involvement in the creation of this venue she will continue to evolve and experiment generating an endless stream of production that will endure for ages.
Selena was born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, daughter of a Honduran couturier and a Scottish land developer. Multi cultural creativity and beauty run deep in her blood. Her mother taught her everything beautiful… art, fashion, etiquette. Her father told her she could achieve anything she wanted in life no matter how high the bar was! She studied Fashion Design where she had the opportunity to immerse herself in the most marvelous fabrics and inspiration from great creators.
Selena married young and her life took a different turn. She was restless, so she began to play with construction and interiors. A divorce came 15 years later and out of the necessity of having to raise 3 children by herself Studio Mackay was born. Every experience was an opportunity to learn and grow.
This continued practice resulted in a plethora of interesting projects, clients and exposure which led to multiple publications in major design magazines. She continues to push boundaries with her new business partner, LeTricia Wilbanks in their new joint venture, The WM.
